Artist Biography
Mariola Rosario Padró  (born in Puerto Rico, 1984) is a professor and cultural producer.  She has been the full time Spanish Faculty at Paul Quinn College in Dallas Texas since 2014. An alumnus of The University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras and the New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science her practice and research interests revolve around cross-disciplinary aesthetic production from literary and contemporary visual culture to critical theory, photography and autobiography, languages, alternative pedagogy and collaborative learning processes.

As a member of the Puerto Rican diaspora, Mariola has kept close ties to the artist communities and cultural workers on the island often collaborating with various projects and artist collectives. Most recently, she curated the exhibit “Topologies of Excess: A Survey of Contemporary Practices from Puerto Rico” at the The Harold J Miossi Art Gallery in San Luis Obispo, California. The show received critical acclaim and was featured in Terremoto Magazine, Artishock, Contemporary and América Latina amongst other contemporary art publications.

 

She is currently co-writing an illustrated children’s book that recounts the history of Puerto Rican feminist icons. The book will be released in December 2019.

This unique artist-shirt was exhibited in The Big Summer T-Shirt Show at ex ovo from June 15 – August 17, 2019.
