ex ovo is pleased to present Michael Uttaro: En Route, the New York-based artist’s first exhibition in Texas. For En Route, Uttaro presents two bodies of work: a series of intimate abstractions in oil pastel and ink on paper, and large-scale, digitally-collaged panoramic photographs tracing labyrinthine walks. Both the paintings and photographs emphasize the artist’s acute sense of the passage of time–the progressive inertia of the universe, the relativity of objectivity, an effort to bridge the gap between the time of making and the time of viewing. Uttaro’s quiet efforts connect Dr. Richard Feynman’s dynamic lectures on physics to observational drawing and a broad study of art history. The use of complex patterns as structuring devices unifies an otherwise formally diverse group of works. En Route is on view through February 22, 2020.

Michael Uttaro (b. 1988, New York, NY) received his BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science, and an MFA from Brooklyn College. He has exhibited in galleries in New York, Scotland, and Kyoto Japan, including Space 776, Bronx Art Space, Moynihan Station, Hunter College, and Seika University. In 2015, he participated in The Snake Gulch Project with New Age Drinks in Jerome, AZ, a curatorial and residency program that presaged ex ovo. This is his first solo exhibition in Texas.
